What happens when someone else’s past catches up with you?

Elizabeth Miller had lived in Deni her entire life. In a small rural town, Beth’s biggest problem is telling her protective and fiercely private father that she has a boyfriend.

But when her dad disappears before her and Jonah’s eyes, Beth discovers that he isn’t who she thought he was. Her family’s secret past has caught up with them, and someone wants her dead.

Beth has been unwittingly prepared for this moment her entire life. Can she find a way out before they find her?

My Thoughts:

The sole reason, I even read this book is because of Star’s unending raving and love for all things Fleur Ferris. So I asked her which book I should read, and out of all of them and this was the one she recommended! So I, having faith in Star’s advice, promptly ordered it and am I very so happy I did!

This was such an intense and action-packed story from the second chapter. We are there first hand watching as Beth’s whole life comes crashing down, but also pieces fall in place bit by bit. I never was one for action films and such but this book made me understand why people enjoy them. My heart was thudding as Beth crawls through reeds and water armed to her teeth to save her parents.

I did find the switch from Beth’s first-person perspective and Jonah’s third-person perspective a bit jarring at times and definitely found Jonah’s parts frustrating. It’s amazing how with all this big bad terrible stuff happening to his girlfriend he was so focused on how it all affected him and how his life was the worst. Luckily Beth’s passages are much more predominant and carry the novel.

This book has all the action and thrill that I have been told Tomorrow When The War Began has, but I have yet to be able to get through. I’m definitely checking out more Fleur Ferris in the very near future!

asdfksjfks I am so glad you liked this one, Brooklynne!
Fleur has a way of really pulling you into the story and not letting you go until well after the book is finished. Well, I have found that, at least.
I was so scared for Beth the entire time, and she was so badarse and so incredible even when things were going to shit. Ahh I need to reread this book!
