So well, it’s been a month… I’ve as you might have noticed not been here, or on Twitter, or Instagram. So where have I been? Well mostly sewing and watching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Brooklyn 99. I didn’t mean to just disappear, it was supposed to be a week at most but, you know best-laid plans and all of that.
So what happened?
Well, the obvious part is that on the 25th of March New Zealand went into Maximum lockdown, no leaving your house unless you were doing grocery shopping or you were an essential worker, besides a daily exercise. This also meant no more couriers or online shopping. This hit me way harder than I expected, and I’m not sure why but my stress levels massively increased. But really things start before then.
Back in February, I finished at the job I had been at for nearly 3 years and it was already a huge hit to me, despite it being my choice. I was mostly okay though because I knew it was onto bigger and better things. I really want to pivot and work in a more creative industry, ideally in publishing. Then a job came up a local university press as a publicity assistant. I had worked with them before, and they published my favourite book in 2019. I would be thrilled to spend every day promoting them, I instantly had ideas for their Instagram and was jazzed.
The same day that It was announced that we were going into lock down I got the email that I had been rejected for the job without and interview. I of course want them to have the best possible person for the job, but sadly that was not me. I still adore them as a publisher, no hard feelings.
These two things combined to push me into a deep funk, I also got a lot of brain fog and as with a lot of people really struggled with time slipping away, something that is difficult enough for me as someone with ADHD. So I decided to just give myself some space till I felt ready… and now it’s been a month and I think it’s time to get back at it!
What happens now?
I am back as of this week and currently will continue on my M-T-W-T posting schedule with Mondays and Thursdays guaranteed to be reviews. I have a few backlogged reviews and am back to reading again(I only read 3 books in April)! Wednesdays with continue to feature anticipated releases and Tuesdays a bit of a mixed bag. I am looking at playing around with my schedule and perhaps doing a M-W-F-Sa schedule. What do you think?
I hope you all have been well and I have massively missed you all!
