To say the Carry On by Rainbow Rowell is one of my favourite books is an understatement. This is a book that I read finished then instantly reread to ensure I caught all the little things. Everything about this book brings me joy, clumsy first kisses, sexuality exploration without fear, hate to love romance, give it all to me. There is not a character in this that I don’t love on some level, even the bad guy is endearing. After how things ended in “Carry On” I was so excited to hear about a sequel.
The story is supposed to be over.
Simon Snow did everything he was supposed to do. He beat the villain. He won the war. He even fell in love. Now comes the good part, right? Now comes the happily ever after… So why can’t Simon Snow get off the couch?
What he needs, according to his best friend, is a change of scenery. He just needs to see himself in a new light…
That’s how Simon and Penny and Baz end up in a vintage convertible, tearing across the American West.
They find trouble, of course. (Dragons, vampires, skunk-headed things with shotguns.) And they get lost. They get so lost, they start to wonder whether they ever knew where they were headed in the first place…
I love everything about this synopsis. I love that it looks at what happens after the typical “happily ever after” scenario. I even love that the two titles combined are a famous Kansas song made popular by Supernatural. Mostly I love more of Baz, Simon, Penny and I hope some more of Agatha.
